regarding competition from MicroLED . "Shrinking the technology to microdisplay size is likely 10+ years off, and with substantial technology advances in OLED and likely significant investments in production capacity over that period, there might be little advantage or motivation to build out entirely new fabrication plants, processes and tooling."
Regarding eMagin - "principal competitor focused on OLED microdisplays...has seen reasonable success... EMAN discussed involvement in a program to upgrade the F-35 helmet display...it is unclear if the program will ultimately prevail and if so whether the helmets will be single sourced. KOPN LCD creates a green glow...while we think KOPN is working on a fix, the competing OLED is a risk. EMAN achieved substantial advancement in brightness , contrast and power efficiency. Production at scale appears to remain a challenge. It is unclear if some of the traditional OLED challenges such as uneven color wear rates and shorter lifespans are solved. We think EMAN will be most competitive in VR where OLED stands out as a superior technology

Microled- Sculley, told us it was a long way off
F-35- Single sourced yes but like Lurker said unwinding it will take some time.
Green Glow- That ship sailed, i.e. The George Washington, The Essex and the Abraham Lincoln. The Navy gave them a chance to come with a hardware fix with no success. No sense that Kopin is even trying to rectify.
High Brightness Display- Funded by NAVAIR, new display tested by NAVAIR at Pax Naval Air Station. So they have been planning this switch for years. Pressed on High Brightness by Analyst Fan seemed oblivious about the specs, processes required, roadmap to get there.
Uneven Color and Lifetime-Complete acceptance by the US Military, SOCOM, PEO, ARL, AFRL, TATRC, NVSED means that these meet every requirement of the services and have been placed into and planned forward for the most advanced near-eye systems extant. There's nothing better. Perhaps they would rather have maximum capability than a longer lifetime with compromised capabilities. Make sense?
