This tightening and strengthening of the supply chain could be equally applied in our situation. Not to prevent a near monopoly on "Rare Earth" minerals but to guarantee superior displays for advanced fighters. I thought it was strange how much time Doc Fan spent on Kopin's history supplying the US Military. Ancient history for the most part. But they have that JV with BOE and China needs to maintain near parity with their peers, that's the plan anyway. The US has a clear advantage and eMagin a clear advantage in supplying US & friendlies e.g. Top Owl, BAE Stryker, Thales, future JSF etc. Who leads with an old program and cites 2 current with which Kopin has a minor role? Their website is resplendent with Scopes, Target Designators and the like. They don't attend domestic Trade Shows i.e. Soldier Tech, SOFIC, AUSA. SPIE Defense is it. He volunteered that he didn't "know how FWS worked" and he sounded sincere. It makes me wonder who they are trying to appeal too.

With the advent of a sole source for the West (DPA) they appear to be looking for a different kind of escape route.  Even the politics for them has to be daunting. Like the thunderstorms he flew through in getting to NYC.

The authors premise works just as well:

The current administration and Department of Defense are taking welcome steps to finally address the issue, pursuant to Executive Order 13806; they should work with Congress to fully resource the Defense Production Act Title III program as well as assist new producers in securing needed qualifications, in addition to other actions to incentivize production.
Implementing these recommendations will significantly reduce supply chain risk for the military, improve manufacturing strength and mitigate vulnerability. All these steps can be implemented but will require readdressing old assumptions about how to maintain our industrial base in a global economy.
