I've settled on Nano's theses and Don's primary determinative factor, MS. Mort, for whatever reason, has said no more help from me. You have too sink or swim on your own. That would account for the "new seriousness". In doing so force them to get their ass in gear, force a managerial putsch or other outcome e.g. sale, merger, buyout at what would amount to a fire sale.
