Good stuff from Guttag. I can second his statement but Breaking News It's Not

Biggest AUSA Show I can remember. There's money in them thar Defense Budgets.
Had a chance to try the Striker II Helmet BAE is building for the Typhoon. Since the F-35 GENIII based on that Tech it's a safe assumption that it uses the same display. A sure conversation stopper there is to say "OLED display eh?" but one can construe. The symbology is crisp, there is zero latency and a number of choices in the color gamut. Green, White, Natural and able to switch color for the symbology.  So that has eMagin displays in in it right Dr. Wittels?
The Harris/L3 Rep gave a nice little talk on ENVG-B. He had tagged along on all the Touch Points. His personal Touch Point was Marine SGT. Frenley. There was more testing of which we are unaware. Frenley pow-wowed with his pals after each TP to go over what they had seen, observed and might suggest. It really is "Designed by Soldiers". By the end there was zero negs related to the device and it's performance. The Rep was an observer in the cave at Ft. Drum. They set up a insertion scenario where the Soldier with the ENVG-B had to elude a soldier who's orders were to stop any intruder. The defender had a PVS-7, the legacy unit. We'll shed a tear. He fake died within about 5 minutes when the ENVG-B user "killed him" by crawling to a vantage and tagging around the corner. They asked the guy if he saw who killed him? Nope, a ghost.
I didn't get to try the ENVG but unlike last year where L3 had one (1) to show and it was all but under lock and key, this year had a number on display and one that the reps could handle but no touchy by anybody else.
I asked him the IVAS-ENVG-B situation and he said that IVAS would integrate as available and something I never thought of was that each could be "Mission Specific". Important to remember that they work in the same manner.
????????????????????????? IronVision.  Gave up nothing except Google is the best place on Earth to work.
There were no SmartEyes in the Elbit booth. Digital NVGs but a lot on emphasis on SA and Night Vision in their products and signage. Col. Carlisle was there telling anyone who would listen how IronVision fit into MDO.
I was particularly keen to hear the panel on Soldier Lethality but as it turned out Gen Gervais Panel on STE was more interesting. A couple of things. IVAS has already had 5000 hours of testing and being used in training  scenarios and maybe more? Not sure I heard it right but I think she said in operations as well. Good IVAS stuff.
Listen up Microvision people. After the TouchPoint at Ft. Pickett Soldier Lethality had a de-briefing with the participants and to a soldier agreed that range was less important than FOV. The reason? They wanted a wider Field of View for a more natural format but they emphasized how much more they felt they needed that FOV when doing Mission Rehearsal in Sim and Training. So the hats were confused. Of course they should want more range but nay. If they wanted more range all they had to do was check the view in the FWS-I. (eMagin inside). In addition the IVAS is Digital Night Vision (like my Torch) so no Intensifier Tubes (like the Torch). It delivers video streaming and picture-in-a-picture like ENVG-B. The "Ruggedness" TP is next July. So in the meantime it is under design for combat use. It is the same as ENVG-B without the Tubes with a wider FOV. Again MVIS people. Your display cannot do these things. Do your homework.
Both Microsoft and Google are working with the Team to help with the network using gaming as the guide. Land Battle in the future will be Fortnite with real blood. Very interesting. I know I forgot some stuff but will put it up later. Yes eMagin is used widely in defense no viewfinders. Thanks Karl.
