This United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) SBIR Phase II project optimized eMagin’s WUXGA OLED microdisplay for mass production and was certified by the US Army Night Vision Lab to be at Technology Readiness Level 7. The initial development of the WUXGA OLED microdisplay was funded through the U.S. Army Telemedicine and Advanced Technology Research Center (TATRC) with continued development in conjunction an Air Force SBIR Phase I. The WUXGA, with better than HD resolution (1920 x 1200 pixels), offers superior performance in power consumption, operational temperature extremes, resolution, contrast ratio, viewing angle, reliability and overall imaging fidelity. These characteristics are key requirements in reducing the size, weight, power and cost of microdisplays required for military and commercial systems. This successful SBIR II project sets the stage for the .86 inch diameter WUXGA microdisplay to be inserted into advanced military systems, including existing and future multi-spectral head mounted displays.
