"Glaser's comments to Jane's do indicate that there have been some questions about the maturity of at least some portions of the technology behind IVAS. Derived from Microsoft's commercial HoloLens augmented reality system, these headsets provide night vision and thermal imaging capabilities".
Keep in mind that as a platform IVAS is ENVG-B with Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning thrown into the mix. i.e. having to coordinate with anybody, anytime in a Degraded and/or Contested Environment. Everybody who was able floated this notion and it accounted for much of the consternation that was evident with those involved in the Project when they had a chance to vent a little in public.
It was not the Hardware and will not be the Hardware when they finally sort out all the complexities. A reset was called for and I'm not surprised that it came out of the STE Office with what they have rolled out as challenges in the past. These two worlds have to link up, they have to be able to duplicate any Mission any time in Training. If folks were starved for IVAS stories maybe the "tell" was there was virtually no info coming out of the Project about the Synthetic Training Environment.
This is a good place to remind the Microvidiots that this is when "your Tech" was washed out of the program but it was never really "your tech". Very early prototype.
"However, early prototype IVAS systems were simply not rugged enough for operational use, with one iteration notably not being able to work in the rain."
