These Helmet Mounted Displays are proving to be a prickly problem for the Joint Strike Fighter. The "Green Glow" is caused by insufficient contrast. Giving a little more credence to the rumor I heard that a much higher contrast display is waiting "in the wings" or the cockpit or somewhere.
