5 DC-Area Virtual Reality Startups to Watch...More eMagin iHMD Customers-in-Waiting

The DC area and more specifically the University of Maryland is fast becoming a little Silicon Valley. It started when Brendan Iribe, maybe you remember him, one of those at the start of the founding of that thing known as the Oculus Rift. He gave the U of MD $31 Million to do research in Virtual Reality. The building he funded, recently completed, is named after the donor, The Brendan Iribe Center. The guy went to Maryland for one semester and left to work a start-up.  Lucky them, in that short time he developed such a loyalty. The center is more popularly known as the Innovation Lab. Anyway that donation provided the catalyst for the DC Area VR boomlet described in the article. The University is currently negotiating with Sergey Brin to donate to the Center as well. His father taught Math and Physics at Maryland until he retired. Proximity to major Tech companies and the Federal Government also aiding the growth.
Our old pal Yuval Boger and Sensics rate a mention although Sensics has been at it since Iribe was in Pampers.
