I'm plugging Kopin in where appropriate and eMagin in where appropriate so even the least astute get the drift...

One of the F-35 items cited by the GAO as needing fixes before full-production is the Helmet Mounted Display (HMD), shown here. "During low-light flights, the HMD projects a composite night vision video feed on the pilot’s visor," the report says. "However, the projection system uses back-lit liquid crystal displays (ed.KOPIN), which creates a green glow on the screen as the light escapes through gaps between each pixel. This green glow makes it difficult to see the full resolution of the night vision video feed. Organic light-emitting diode displays (ed. eMagin) avoid this effect by only illuminating the active pixels. The program expects HMDs with this improvement to enter production in early 2019."
