Osterhout Design Group Updated Their Homepage
now the little red circles with the plus sign have a description of the X6 Glasses' guts. IR Sensor, GPS, Augmented Reality, everything he has described over the years. There have been no new reports on ODG's possible acquisition by Microsoft since last Fall.
Displays : "DualHD see-through displays with brilliant 3D imagery."

Thanks Ralph for the Common Sense:Microsoft Paid Up To $150M To Buy Wearable Computing IP From The Osterhout Design Group ODG's IP vs Rift's one filed Patent Zuckerberg talks a big game
“In terms of what we’re doing [at ODG], we don’t make weapons. We make things that can help people do their jobs,” he says. “The real focus are features that are applicable in the consumer space, too.” In other words, ODG may already be talking to other companies for consumer products; or its door is open to that possibility.

This Is The First Indication Seen That Microsoft HAS
"The suit reflects the wearable IP battle that is brewing between companies looking to grab market share of the hot wearables & devices space. Last year, Microsoft beefed up its wearable IP portfolio to compete with competitors, Google and Apple with the acquisition of long-time emerging tech design shop, Osterhout Design Group."

Ralph Osterhout: Augmented Reality Glasses
The most recent reports are that Microsoft is in the process of acquiring the Osterhout Design Group. He who has thought longest and deepest about the practicality and applicability of A/R Glasses. Listen to his goals, infinite focus with crisp overlay, high resolution, sunglasses sized, small form factor for the optics and we could safely add to his criterion low weight and low power. Sculley said at the CC the other day that only eMagin Displays could achieve the brightness, low SWAP and small form factor necessary for this application. And the last thing you want to do Team Oculus is isolate the brain from your environment like putting on a fully enclosed Head Mounted Display.

I thought Microsoft owned all of the Osterhout Design Group Patents...
@Apple keeps working on a ring as an input device, with the latest patent application adding pressure-sensitive mechanisms within the ring to detect pressure on its band to generate inputs that can then be wirelessly transmitted to "companion devices" (meaning upcoming HMDs). pic.twitter.com/dGppi92uRC

How Mobile Innovators are Driving Mainstream VR and AR Adoption Panel (Ah, Nima Shams from ODG put his finger on my eureka moment , too long ago, when I saw a guy on the subway watching a game on his phone, he appeared near-sighted so he was holding the phone a few inches from his eyes... that same day I talked to an engineer from General Dynamics who told me about Land Warrior. Arg, one degree of separation, Shams and the man who destroyed Land Warrior, Ralph Osterhout)

Another Thought About Opt...
![]() |
| Thinking about "The Thinker" |
There was a time when (no shocker) eMagin's future was very much in doubt. The Technology was too sophisticated, too expensive. OLED suffered from short lifetime, burn-in, embarrassingly low yields, low demand. Thinking about this reminds me just how dicey things were. In the midst there was Opt. And there was Sagem/Felin. Opt did, I did not realize the importance of FELIN, Soldier Modernization in France. I thought the Suite was a good fit for eMagin displays and took for granted eMagin would eventually dominate the the market. So I peddled some flummery here. I assumed Land Warrior in the States was a slam dunk after the Strykers seemed to embrace it in their Brigade exercises at Lewis-McChord. I did not know that behind the scenes Ralph Osterhout was working the Pentagon to cancel the program. The Generals listened to Ralph. So it was the American Made OLED displays that eventually ended up in the Rifle Scopes and HUDs of the French Foreign Legion that turned out to be THE critical program that gave eMagin just enough cash and credibility to survive. Without it this company would be a footnote at Display Daily
And Opt watched that program more closely than than the French Ministry of Defense. He dug and questioned until he was satisfied that the program would survive. He would get jittery if he saw some vulnerability in the Sagem/eMagin partnership. He held fast. He was nails. He provided us the highest resolution, FOV and visual acuity. Ha! Thinking of it now he is the one who provided us the greatest Situational Awareness.

Osterhout Design Group (ODG) may be dead before mass shipping its R-9 augmented reality glasses, with an asset sale planned for January focused on the #AR company’s patent portfolio.

I love Ralph. Ferrari Microdisplays?. "It may take a while to get to a pair of $200 AR glasses that do everything you want them to do. Osterhout said, “[The tech] exists. But there’s no such thing as a free lunch. You don’t get to jam in another screen from a high-end smartphone into a tiny device and say, ‘I want that son-of-a-bitch for free!’ Everybody wants to have a Ferrari. But the sheer fact of the matter is if you’re driving a Prius, you’re not gonna be able to do everything that the Ferrari can do.”
Ralph enjoyed his time with other visionaries at #Gamesbeat this week. Thanks for inviting us, @deantak! https://t.co/qCMqSZXXWh
