Still eNigmatic but not what I thought. A small company so better than Arpara but not a Tier 1. I agree anything pointing to an advance that can steer the conversation in our direction is wholly welcome. eMagin is so methodical on how they do things that might well work as a catalyst. When I think about this company and technological breakthroughs I think of the Oasys Thermal Weapon Sight that abruptly ended the careers of the Somali Pirates and an OLED display's first use of Thermal in a Weapon Sight. We've been pals of SOCOM ever since. That laid the groundwork for their entre' into the military business but since then nothing that makes folk's excited. A signal accomplishment in Consumer World would be for the button-downed set in East Fishkill earth shaking.

I enjoyed this eNigmatic statement. Anybody conjure up a mental image of what he might mean? The "Thing (hardware) I saw and can't talk about". No eMagin, no Facebook. Sign here, you are sworn to silence. By process of elimination my guess would be a company as significant or more significant than Facebook in this field. We can include Meta in this construct maybe this happened before Zuck changed the name. I'll say it involved a Apple or Valve VR Headset with X Displays and something was communicated that could be understood to mean that the displays in this Headset, probably Sony, as good as they are, something better is on the way and it "makes me excited for eMagin"...
And that the forthcoming display is an upgrade over the display that both Sculley and General Seay has described in the past" as beautiful".
"The thing I saw and can’t talk about doesn’t involve eMagin or Facebook. But makes me excited for eMagin."
That makes sense with Quest 2 doing so well. Their success might start at theLow End and Bubble Up and Apple will try and succeed to capture the High End and Trickle down
reading the Scoble A-B of the two I can't picture Apple not winning this joust. It's easy to see why Sculley can say that the Companies they are dealing with are more secretive than SOCOM because Apple seems to have a tight lid on their ambitions and Mr. Metaverse is trying to co-opt or pre-empt the competition with Beat Sabre and Investor presentations. To my mind Apple wins with a King's Gambit Opening.I read Carmack last couple talks and then these Tweet as evidence of discouragement.

and as long as we're doing shoutouts to nincompoops zoolers it looks like China is not the Golden Goose that you constantly harp on as Kopin's Promised Land...Why has Investment in China OLED Microdisplay collapsed? In a word because they suck...
#6 More Than $2 Billion Investment in OLED Microdisplays for AR/VR - WRONG
While AR/VR has emerged as one of the hottest topics of the year, and while OLED microdisplays appear to have an inside track to win this application, we got a little ahead of ourselves with this prediction. We had predicted a high level of investment in OLED microdisplay based on some aggressive plans by companies in China.
Several of these investments were delayed or cancelled in 2021, and we estimate investment in OLED microdisplay to total $258M this year, with the largest investment coming from XUS, $191M for a 12-inch R&D facility in Wuxi, Jiangsu, China. One significant plan by Ever Vivid for more than $500M for a phase 2 12-inch line was delayed to 2022 and may be questionable even next year.
Despite more modest investment levels in 2021, we continue to expect substantial investment and growth in OLED microdisplays, based on several public statements:
- Meta (Facebook) said in October that it expected its investment in its hardware division, Facebook Reality Labs, to reduce overall operating profit in 2021 by approximately $10 billion. It is unclear how much of this investment was in display technologies (including Micro OLED), but we can assume it was a sizeable portion.
- Sony is still expected to supply Micro OLED displays for the Apple headset, but we hear that production of the displays has been pushed to the first half of 2022.
- Sidtek recently announced groundbreaking for a 12-inch plant with monthly input of 18K wafers, capable of making 4M displays per year.
FYI Geoffrey Porter and the rest of the MVIS/Benzinga Morons out there. Microvision has not received a red cent from the US Government for over 12 years. They are not in IVAS and have never participated in a Program of Record.
eMagin, on the other hand co-developed the Display that has been the foundational tech that is in and will be in ENVG-B and IVAS and the vast majority of Near-Eye-Displays. But Benzinga, big authority, wow, none of them were ever late to a MENSA Meeting. But keep barking up that tree it will vastly increase the schadenfreude!

They borrowed this concept from Ralph Osterhout. It's a little cringe that toys are seen as prototypes for weapons but that's the world we live in. Everybody had a deck of cards where Saddam is the Ace of Spades right? eMagin inside the ENVG-B a very expensive toy.

100% eMagin Inside, Battery Management and the need to continue Iterative Improvements required before the funds are let out of the corral. But I stand by my contention that"Blaze the Night" was the first prototype of IVAS, Digital & Thermal Night Vision "are both available at the press of a button" just like my funky Blaze Torch.
The bill would fence off about a quarter of billion dollars from the $1.1 billion the Army wants to spend on IVAS until the service can provide Congress with a report on the program.
That report would be due 60 days after the bill becomes law and require a plan to ensure IVAS’s battery management system meets planned requirements, a strategy including critical milestones for 3D geospatial data and a plan for iterative improvements to sensors and software throughout the procurement of the system. Congress also wants certification that working components of the program are in order.
“The IVAS prototype heads up display packs a variety of impressive capabilities into one package. Night vision and thermal scope settings are both available at the press of a button,” an Army release states. “Soldiers can share topographical imagery or 3D maps of an objective at any time, whether rehearsing or in the field. A soldier can pair the IVAS to a weapon, enabling the weapon to be aimed using a reticle projected into their field of vision rather than holding it at the shoulder and peering through the scope. All members of a platoon can know where all of their teammates are at a given time, no matter how dark or dense the surrounding terrain.”

At the company level it appears to be META vs Apple et al. On the Geo-Political Level it appears to be the West and I'll include Korea in that equation vs China. A good way to pull the rug out from under the CCP is to dominate the next Global Mega-Trend in Transparent, Flexible and Micro OLED Displays. That would be a huge boost for certain National Economies.
Korea's display makers currently lead the global market in organic light-emitting diodes (OLED) displays, but they have been growing increasingly alarmed by how fast Chinese rivals have caught up in terms of technology.
They worry that they may lose their competitive edge in OLED technology, which is what happened with liquid crystal displays (LCD), where Chinese players now account for close to 60 percent of the global market share. Korean display makers are eyeing the timing of exiting the LCD market, given their profitability has deteriorated due to Chinese players that offer the panels at lower prices.
OLEDs are considered as the next-generation display, because the panels are thinner, lighter and show improved picture quality compared to LCDs.

If you want to get wonky on IVAS this is a great listen. John Ferrari talks IVAS. An anecdote about IVAS. The "how-to shoot your rifle" in the Manual was not updated to accommodate the IVAS System. So a soldier spent some time on the range with IVAS and in a half hour figured out "how to" and the how to was not to raise the rifle to the shoulder but he couldn't miss shooting from the hip. In other words IVAS integrates RTA just like ENVG-B "shooting around corners". Talks about IVAS interchangeably with Ironvision (an Elbit System). Bit of a wrangle with the Navy as they seem more interested in a device for Maintenance and Repair like Google Glass.
Just a reminder of the depth of delusion and ignorance on constant display by the MVIS Mafiosi. A person of normal intelligence sees "Microsoft", the Mafiosi see "Microvision", nowhere to be found in the article. 2stupid cites this article leading others to believe that Microvision is somehow involved with fabricating of Advanced Chips for the Department of Defense...The DoD has bestowed large Grants on eMagin with more in the future for developing and manufacturing Advanced Displays. The niggling thought always returns that they can't seem to get through a Quarter without "unexpected tool downtime". The Supply Chain is constrained enough without complicating delivery schedules, material supply etc and I have a hard time believing as their military biz accelerates that it will work itself out. If they have to meet the demand of a growing backlog maybe the Kaizen Method will work out kinks and the new Engineer and Salterelli will have the Spare Parts and voluntary salary cuts will finally get them to a profitable Quarter...
What we know that's in the Pipeline seems to be outsized to what they are capable of in delivering finished goods. Apropos of nothing except they need help from a Prime, another Line somewhere, mo Fed money. They are still haunting the Halls of Congress lobbying for "All legislation and provisions related to Advanced Displays". Kopin hasn't had to file a Lobbying Disclosure-2 since 2009 and they supply a few PORs and eMagin has to hire the top defense Lobbyists on K Street to pull on lapels. Any chance these become perfunctory anytime soon? How many PORs do you have to supply before you don't have to take a Congress Critter to Mastro's for Lunch? “We don’t perceive distance with one eye, we just see larger or smaller - but if I can put it in both eyes I can get the object in 3D," Jette said. "To do that I need to have the sensing system to know where the eye is looking and focusing. The IVAS does that. It determines what you are looking at and what type of object you are looking at and focusing on to generate a 3D image in front of you. The good part about this is I don’t need all those heavy optics on my face."

I'm not sure that Israel is even one beat behind the US in fielding their Soldier Suite with an eye towards the Multi-Domain and Combined Arms. They have the advantage of a small military and not have to worry about integrating X number of languages etc. into their System. THE PDA the soldier is looking at in the image is what the US calls Nett Warrior, the shared data system matured between Land Warrior and ENVG-B/IVAS. As the US developing was developing those Elbit was developing Torch, Raptor and Smarteye (digital night vision) which is the equivalent of IVAS. I'll say because of the more manageable size of the task before them, smaller numbers, no "tyranny of distance" etc. Israel may even be ahead on the Tech side. eMagin Morning Brief: "ENVG-B is the most advanced night vision goggle ever developed for and fielded by the @USArmy, "and are enabled by eMagin OLED Displays. eMagin displays are the only displays that and have been used in ENGs (except for a minor flirtation with Microoled of Grenoble France) since 2013 and if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Lady Mavis, Microvision, MVIS Morning Brief...
Karl Guttag , KGOnTech - Dec 7 2021 (yesterday):
In the world of AR “scams”, the $3.5 Billion (over 2.5 times Theranos’s $1.3B) into the Magic Leap has to be right at the top.
The other contender would have to be Microvision. They have lost about $600M plus about $90M US government money from an “earmark” pushed through by a US Senator they later put on their board. Microvision went from a low of about 20 cents a share to a high of about $28 per share and a market cap over $3B in less than a year based on hyping their Lidar which people who know Lidar tell me is nothing special, yet no profitable deals have been announced and the company continues to lose about $1M per month and some months much more. The product of Microvision seems to be selling stock.
Since L3/Harris is an ENVG-B and IVAS Vendor we can look for the Australia Defense Force to appropriate those Technologies into their contribution to the Multi-Domain...

High Brightness Reticle usable as a Day Optic/Thermal Imaging like ENVG-B will have an eMagin Display Inside.
XTRAIM is a fully integrated sight for daylight operations, combining a reflex red-dot sight with thermal imaging technology to pick out targets from the background (decamouflage function). The high brightness of the reticle in the red-dot sight makes it possible to identify and engage targets even in bright sunlight.
For night-time operations, XTRAIM is compatible with all types of night vision goggles. In this configuration, the infrared images from the weapon sight are superimposed on the images from the light-intensification tubes in the goggles to deliver an unprecedented target decamouflage capability in low-light conditions.
But the narratives are clashing for sure...

The Xtraim cites "Soldier Centric Design". Where have we heard that before? As early adopters of forward leaning (excuse the expression) the French led the way with their FELIN Suite which really saved eMagin's bacon at a critical time. No surprise they with Israel would be first with their own take on these systems while using eMagin OLED Displays.

Seeing $2000 headsets (without controllers or tracking modules) targeted at consumers always makes me wonder what kind of HW experience a company like Meta or Valve could give us at the same price tag
I guess Apple will break that ice
Brad is on the YMB. Anybody remember the two-week stint of eMagin Tech on Reddit? I can think of a fine replacement if eMagin wants to take the rubber band off the bankroll.
He has OLED Microdisplay Tees back in stock.
I'm too lazy to dig up the numbers but I think the Navy+Marine Corps is just about the same as the USAF plus or minus a few. So near term eMagin appears to get half the new helmets and if you include Allies with significant Carrier programs you have the U.K., Australia, Japan, Italy, Brazil, India and then the nations with one like Denmark and Spain that try to keep one in Service I'm sure they would appreciate the upgrade...
Like the article said the Conventional Take-Off and Landing guys would like to able to re-fuel regardless of conditions. I don't know if they want to persist with Kopin in the A Variant for the foreseeable future but half of the Helmets going to eMagin/OLED would be a jolt to K's revenue and prestige and have a salubrious effect on us. It would steal Kopin's opening line about the "Most sophisticated AR Device in the blah, blah, blah". Question Doc are still taking an F-35 Helmet to CES? Maybe a Consumer version you can sell out of Sky Mall would work.
I think the sole supplier tagline Kopin trundles out is about to end given the info the Air Force Times. Why the was it in the AF Times and not in the Marine Corps Times?
We can't forget the Pilots in the Fighting Falcon and Super Hornet among others in the Squadrons want the good stuff too.
In a crowded or Network deprived environment this Data Convergence stuff looks like it's own worst enemy. Got to do a lot of crawling before they can run. Lesson learned " A Picture is worth a Thousand Data Points", ability to read text, coherent Symbology, being able to communicate with a translator to our Allies, That conclusion is good for us who can "do" Streaming Video and Text...
During Project Convergence, military services found that passing large amounts of data from disparate systems led to inefficiencies. Bottlenecks from excess data that wasn’t critical to the mission caused compromises in picture quality and jammed networks with limited bandwidth. Military leaders questioned if these emerging technologies would clog the network and slow it down rather than accelerate mission success. Travis Thompson, deputy director for the Soldier Lethality-CFT, posed an important question regarding the high bandwidth that augmented reality video often demands: “Was that more valuable than just a picture? A picture in many cases did the exact same thing, it could go through at a higher resolution, inform the decision better.”
Great BK...Help is on the way for the NAVY and USMC...Hope none of the Flyboys ever need to land on a floating island at night in a monsoon with damage while requiring re-fueling...
The instructor pilot tilted his head up and peered under the green glow to get a better view of the other airman’s problem. A few minutes later, he got the “leans” — an illusion where a pilot tilts under the impression that their plane is not level — only to lose sight of the tanker to the left.
After the Navy and Marine Corps began fighting the light while trying to land on aircraft carriers at night, the F-35 program bought 124 OLED helmets that promised to end the problem for the two services.
The Air Force did not prioritize a need for OLED night vision, and so was left out of the purchase, Joint Program Office spokesperson Laura Seal said.
The other Guttag thing there Porter is would anybody working on IVAS go into their development work, I don't think I'm exaggerating, despising a certain company and Tech and have to go to the Office and try to to make it usable? KG can be weirdo but I don't think he's crazy. That would be like a strict Vegan working the line in an abattoir. The LiDAR slam is a Bonus as Zielier would say...

RAVN
https://www.sbir.gov/node/1546557 (Head-Worn Display, 2021)
Anybody who looks at this and says "Oh yeah, Microvision has the inside track on this IVAS stuff" needs a check-up from the neck-up.
Kou's article was confusing he mentioned "Media Reports" of eMagin working with Apple on a AR/VR Device but Apple would obtain 4kx4k Displays from Sony. It's a grab bag of possible observations, alliances and technologies. Let's not miss the Forest for all those trees. OLED Microdisplays are finally coming into their own in terms of the quality of the Tech and gaining (at last) some public notoriety. It's a new game and we are in it.
There seemed to be a change in sentiment spawned by this Tweet which mentions Sony, eMagin, Apple, TSMC everything but the Kitchen Sink. I wasn't literal just noting the change it seemed to bring about. No worries.

Snoop, the MAVIS Morons attacks in swarms. They attacked Tony Rogers when he pointed out LBS deficiencies, they attack Guttag relentlessly for the same, they attacked Brad Lynch (SadlyitsBradley) in his Twitter DMs. It really is a case of MVIS Psychosis.
Saying anything about their "there's no there there" company and they're all over you like maggots. They feel it slipping away.
Mavis Mutts employ a number of rhetorical devices, non sequiturs, self-contradictory statements, outright lies, deflection, they know the drill. And I hope nobody reads this and thinks I am picking on the slow or disabled but it does feel like it sometimes.
A couple of doozies today, Spbiz equates the $39 Million eMagin is receiving to upgrade their Manufacturing line for Production of Direct Patterned Displays with the Contracted payments to Microsoft for IVAS over the coming years. There is no correlation between these situations. I'll add that Microvision has not been the recipient of one dollar from the Government for over eleven years, the last payment being for a Phase I SBIR which never went anywhere. Microvision has never made it past Phase I to Phase II much less to an STTR which is the Tech Transfer to join a successful company's work with a Research Institute meant to mature that Technology for, in these cases, the Department of Defense. Here Spbiz trying to type something coherent and fails:
"A $33 Million Dollar Contract, the military paid Microsoft how much once again?"
If you can't grasp that Microsoft and Microvision are not the same entity even though they both share "Micro" as the first two syllables in their name it is very tough to advance the discussion. The Microsoft IVAS Liasion has stated publicly, "We know AI and Data and the Army knows how to build a Night Vision Goggle".
Geoffrey Porter's turn. In light of the above that Microvision has never Qualified a Display or Device for use by the Department of Defense, in spite of that Porter insists that Karl Guttag will drag himself to Porter's front door and sob his apologies that he was wrong about Microvision/LBS in IVAS.
Porter says. "He will be eating crow in a few months".
OK so Guttag has a paying job as the CTO for a small shop called "RAVN" which is a start-up run by a couple of retired Special Forces guys who hired Kuttag to be their CTO and that is where he is now.
RAVN has been tasked with developing a User Interface for the most sophisticated Night Vision/Data Sharing Device in history and in that capacity his work is Classified Top Secret same as anyone involved with IVAS he has signed an NDA. I'm going to try to make as simple as possible:
GUTTAG CANNOT UTTER ONE WORD ABOUT ANY COMPANY AND THEIR WORK OR EVEN MENTION THEIR NAME/PARTICIPATION TO ANYONE AT ANYTIME AND IF HE DID HE WOULD JEOPARDIZE RAVN'S WORK ON IVAS.
HE TOOK THE TIME ON HIS BLOG YESTERDAY TO SAY THIS ABOUT MICROVISION BELOW...HE HAD NO COMPUNCTION ABOUT MENTIONING MICROVISION ANY NUMBER OF TIMES ON HIS BLOG. THEREFORE THE ANSWER PORTER MICROVISION HAS NOTHING AT ALL TO DO WITH IVAS.
The other contender would have to be Microvision. They have lost about $600M plus about $90M US government money from an “earmark” pushed through by a US Senator they later put on their board. Microvision went from a low of about 20 cents a share to a high of about $28 per share and a market cap over $3B in less than a year based on hyping their Lidar which people who know Lidar tell me is nothing special, yet no profitable deals have been announced and the company continues to lose about $1M
As Brad crawls out further and further on the eMagin Branch we have to ask ourselves "Can it hold him?", "What does he stand to lose if he's wrong?", Credibility, the respect of his peers, more lucrative job prospects but he doesn't seem worried in the least. How come?
The good news, back in stock, the bad news...Inflation has hit the OLED Microdisplay Tee-Shirt Market. Up .50 cents.

Don't be intimidated by that little punk spibz. He has multiple IDs and started life at as Stonks Ape touting Lady Mavis/IVAS and he knows Jack Shit about IVAS. In fact any time you corner him about any Mavis/IVAS connection he starts crying like a panty waist. His M.O is to start screaming for Geoffrey Porter when he's in over his head and that's a dead giveaway because Porter is a complete dolt on Military and Acquisition and Practices,Trajectory of the Program, Budget Process, knows nothing about how DC works. Just a couple of monkeys throwing shit at anybody walking nearby. You can throw Chris333/2Stupid into that mix, he tries to pull the same crap.
They are terrified of not being in IVAS which equates to not being Hololens which equates to having to pump the achingly boring Auto LIDAR Vertical.

What do you guys think? Has 4K War broken out between LG/eMagin and Sony and in which case does this make Sony a competitor or eMagin is an Arms Dealer supplying IP to both and may the best Company win?
